HAVE A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD
A relationship is the coming together of persons by choice to share each others’ moments as a team. This entails making room in your life to accommodate each other; sometimes putting the other’s need before yours, like in the family; with a father, mother and children as a kind of team.
In the relationship with God – who already exist in a relation of Three Persons in one God; Father, Son and Holy Spirit – God decided to share His space and glory with Man, He initiated His relationship with Man and through His great love created man in His own image and likeness for man to be qualified for the relationship. Afterwards He made His love known to man by giving everything He created and loved to Man to dominate and use for his happiness (Genesis 1:27-30)
Man is God’s very special creature, for no other creature was created in God’s own image and likeness; not even the Angels in Heaven has God’s likeness.
So, from the on-set we were in a special relationship with God, to have a filial affection for God as our most loving Father. This relationship is to inspire you and I to love God who first loved us and initiated the relationship we are in with Him. We also must love and respect for God’s sake all that He created with love; living and non-living things (Plants, animals, Sun, Moon, the seasons, angels, fellow human beings etc.).
The relationship also requires that we fear God by respecting Him so much that we will always try to avoid the one thing that separates us from him – SIN. Detaching ourselves from worldly pleasures and wrong doing that displeases him. Not because of condemnation; but rather more out of a sincere reverence and childlike submission to the one who loves us so much that He gave us part of Himself – the Holy Spirit in us, making us worthy through our Lord Jesus Christ His Children.
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! (1 John 3:1)
Our Relationship with God is a consecration that is spiritual and eternal and the greatest secret of our strength as humans is in the connection, we have with Almighty God our Father and Creator. “Who is our quiet consecration keeping us connected to the source of life”.
Every person has an individual relationship with God and so each person must nurture this and always re-consecrate self to God. We are Godlike and therefore above the world and its pleasures. God created all things in the world and gave to us, to use for our good and His pleasure, as both the world and us belong to Him. Knowing that we belong to God and have His Spirit within us; should encourage us to remain connected to God and guard our personal relationship jealously by being obedient to God’s word.
Our connection with and to God remains strong when we stay true to Him and nourish the personal relationship with Him through being in communion with Him. “A life of unbroken communion with God” is something we must try to keep and cherish. When we misuse the gift of the world and its pleasures; the connection and Spiritual strength we have is taken away, this in turn affects our communion and personal relationship with Almighty God.
We are set apart for God; the world and its pleasures, exciting and beautiful as it may be, must not be misused, but used in accordance to God’s command to please Him. Live with caution in this world, be weary of the false beauty, enchantment and deceptive appearance of things around you, they will only lead to the dark valley of eternal condemnation. We are not to live in fear of the world and its pleasures, but as Superiors, in that we are to dominate the world in a manner that pleases God and not allow worldly pleasures dictate and determine how we use the life time God gave us in this world.
Try with the guidance of the Holy Spirit to live your life with self-control and avoid evil vices of Lust, Greed, Covetousness, Wickedness, Hatred and Unforgiveness. All things belong to God and all these He gave to Man according to His needs at creation. So, why the greed and lust, on things already yours; why take more than you need; you only need what you need; other persons have needs too. Take therefore, what you need and use well what has been provided by God, (Exodus 16:4-20) As we cannot store up the Air we breathe or the Sun that bathes us with warmth, so also, we should not be greedy about the provisions of God that are meant for everybody
Let us not make ourselves “Legal Captives of SIN”; by our choice to live in disobedience to God’s Word, doing wrong things. To abandon the gracious mercy of God poured out for us, through Jesus Christ our Lord is a grave mistake. Do not be a debtor to yourself for dishonoring God while you remain captive to sin; and do not be a debtor to God who loves you even before you were born. Do not miss the opportunity to love and serve God. “He who does not love does not know God, for God is love” (1 John 4:8).
True friendship is based on love; God loves us from the beginning of creation before we even knew Him. “As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. You are My friends if you do whatever I command you” (John 15:9-12, 14)
Uphold your friendship with God.
